Bright Bike Handles

The GLOBARS Keep Riders Safe at Night

The GLOBARS are a concept developed by Massachusetts College of Art and Design student Mitchell Silva that turns bike handles luminescent. Silva was inspired to make his creation after his own biking experiences, and the fact that 51,000 cyclists were injured by traffic in 2009.

Silva made the GLOBARS by cutting long strips from the bars and then adding a plastic tubing inside. He then added LED bulbs inside the plastic making the bars burst with light. The bars also have turn signals, which can be activated with the hands.

Silva says the GLOBARS still need a few tweaks and are not quite ready for the streets, but it won't be long before this becomes the standard safety feature for late-night cyclists.
