Gagarin Lamps Provide Domestic Illumination Where Solar Rays Fall Short

If there's one element to interior design that need not be grounded in the earthly aesthetic of the rest of the room, it's the suspended light fixture. These Gagarin Lamps make a bold statement on the subject as they seemingly blast off towards the ceiling and threaten continued paths beyond the roof. Sculpted to the streamlined shapes of rocket ships, these pendant lamps appropriately take their name from the first man in space.

Ksenia Sterlina manufactured them from a variety of slick polished metals like iron and aluminum with gold and silver coatings. They hang from the top of the room on tough black cables, visually mapping out their imaginary upward trajectory. The Gagarin Lamps cast bright beams of light through their bases, leaving impressions on the wall that mimic the explosion of a space shuttle launch.
