Bumble Acquires French Dating App Fruitz To Appeal to Gen Z Daters

Dating platform Bumble Inc. has officially acquired the French dating app Fruitz, which has been exploding in popularity in the past few months. The new purchase marks Bumble's first acquisition, a move that, according to the company, has been made to attract more Gen Z users.

Fruitz is a playful and quirky dating app that assigns profiles fruits depending on their relationship type, ranging from those looking for a one-off hook-up to those searching for a long-term partner. As a result, users can filter out different fruit and match up with others who share the same intentions.

"Expressing what you’re looking for is not easy because we’re fearful of being judged. As a result, no one was being honest with their intentions and everyone was wasting each other’s time," said Julian Kabab, Fruitz CEO and Co-Founder. "Empowering people to be honest with their intentions was our first mission," he continued.

So far, Fruitz has been downloaded 5.6 million times globally, and as of February 3 was ranked No. 4 on iPhone's' "Lifestyle" category in France.
