Deep-Fried Ice Cream Treats

The 'Fried Maltella' Ice Cream Ball is Perfect for Chocolate-lovers

A Sydney-based cafe called 'Piccolo Me' recently made headlines for its outrageous 'Fried Maltella' dessert. While Nutella has taken on many different forms over the years, this deep-fried ice cream creation is unlike anything seen before.

The Fried Maltella is an enormous ball of fried Nutella and vanilla ice cream, topped with crushed Maltesers and a pipping hot salted caramel sauce. While cafe owner Roy El Hachem originally started with a smaller dish, he eventually decided to make a grapefruit-sized version of the decadent dessert. However, the enormous proportions mean that the dish takes two days of preparation to complete. This is largely because the ice cream has to reach the optimal temperature before it can be fried.

While the outrageous chocolate dessert is not a permanent menu fixture, fans can enjoy limited serving of the dish at the cafe's Macquarie University store.
