Phantom Limb Photography

This Frank Bayh and Steff Rosenberger-Ochs Series is Surreal

German photography duo Frank Bayh and Steff Rosenberger-Ochs have shot a series of photographs titled 'The bliss of nanostructure nail varnish.' The name suggests that the photographs are concerned primarily with nail polish; however, this is not the case.

The series focuses on a woman languidly lying about an apartment. The color scheme is comprised mostly of soft grays accented sharply by the woman's red hair. There is more going on in this series than just color and composition, though.

A closer look at the series will reveal an initially subtle but subsequently glaring detail: the woman has more arms and legs than she should. Frank Bayh and Steff Rosenberger-Ochs do not merely tack on another arm or leg for some obtuse attempt at eccentricity; the extra limb is always present in such a way as to seem natural. It's uncanny.
