Headlight-Less Cars

This Self-Driving Ford Fusion Hybrid Has Night Vision

The next evolution of the self-driving car is here and it comes in the form of a Ford Fusion Hybrid. It recently took to some dark desert roads in order to test out a new concept -- one that doesn't involve headlights, which some might consider insane. Since such tests could prove fatal to human drivers, the Ford Fusion Hybrid was tested autonomously.

Essentially, the Ford Fusion Hybrid has been outfitted with night vision. This eliminates the need to spend energy on lighting the way ahead while allowing for a completely different experience traveling at night. It is also purported to improve road safety. Using LiDAR sensors, the car uses high-resolution 3D maps along with information about the road, markings, geography, topography and landmarks like signs, buildings and trees to navigate.
