Flying through a thunderstorm is a situation which many dread and is at least on the back of everyone’s mind while waiting in the terminal.
There is really nothing more terrifying than imagining a lightning bolt slicing its way through the wing of your airplane.
Well, unfortunately this article won’t make you feel any better. According to recent findings from scientists around the country, "Airplane passengers and crews traveling through just one thunderstorm of lightening-emitted X-rays, gamma rays and high-energy electrons could be exposed to radiation amounts equal to 400 chest X-rays."
So what does that mean? Well, 400 chest X-Rays equates to the maximum amount of safe radiation one person can be exposed to in a life time.
