Matthew Butcher is the designer behind the Flood House which is a modern floating weather station designed with the sole purpose of measuring the coming and going of the tide. The station is located on the Thames River and is meant to monitor the shift in water 24-hours a day.
The sleek barge features a contemporary aesthetic with a curved wood facade made from elegantly stacked planks contrasted with white detailing. The house floats on top of several steel pontoons and doesn't include any monitor. Instead, the station is pulled along by a tugboat and is stationed in Essex to collect information about the water, the tide movements and other details about the area. The idea is that the Flood House will provide valuable information in regards to flooding conditions in the area.
