This French Power Plant Will Deliver Clean Energy to 2,000 Homes

Akuo, a company that has well and truly powered floating solar technology in France, has activated a high-tech floating solar power plant that is designed to be able to provide renewable energy to over 2,000 homes in southern France.

Situated in the commune of Cintegabelle near the city of Toulouse, this floating solar power plant has a capacity of 8.7 MWp (megawatt peak) and is situated on an artificial lake. These solar facilities are designed to be able to mitigate evaporation thanks to their placement above a part of the lake's surface. However, at the same time, the lake will continue to be available for fishing, with plans in place for plant and animal life to be monitored while the plant is active.

In providing a decentralized source of renewable energy, this floating solar power plant will be able to evade well over 900 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, making it a fine example of the utility of floating solar technology towards accelerating the transition to a low-carbon future.
