The concept of urban farming may get you thinking about innovative infrastructure that can accommodate agriculture in the city, so you might be surprised to see this project entitled Fin's Labyrinth. The unique submission into the Center for Urban Farming Competition won first place, proposing a sustainable program for raising fish in contrast to its agrarian competitors.
Design With Company's Allison Newmeyer and Stewart Hicks worked with Joseph Altshuler to experiment with a new language of architecture that is difficult to define. A landscape of meandering canal-like lakes is home to a great number of aquatic species that can travel through the extraordinary aquarium tubes into organic flowering structures. Fin's Labyrinth is designed so that the public can come and interact with its food, choosing and tracking it live, and finally purchasing it prepared in the ensuing hours by the farm's staff.
