Multimedia Countertop Lamps

The Electrolux Ice System Can Scan Your Food for Interactive Cooking

The semi-finalists of the previous year's Electrolux Design Lab competition seemed to focus on the physical flexibility of kitchen contraptions. With the Electrolux Ice as an example of an innovative 2012 submission, it's clear that new imaginative ideas have emerged with one emphasis on intelligent instruction.

In its most basic form, Julen Pejenaute's project functions as an overhead lamp. A flick to its switch will, however, activate a precise scanner to read, record and analyze the ingredients and the prepared meals on the table below it. Its most impressive function is in the Electrolux Ice system's ability to suggest recipes from the spread of foods beneath it, behaving like a virtual master chef from whom you have infinite knowledge to learn.
