The edX Online Program Educates Students on the Web Without Cost

The edX online program offers people around the world the opportunity to study courses and engage in learning material that is typically reserved for the students who are the brightest in the country (and have the deepest pockets.)

The program is a joint venture between The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University, which aims to improve the educational system and allow anyone who has the will and desire to learn the ability to do so.

The director of MTI's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Anant Agarwal, will act as edX's first president and oversee the research initiative geared toward garnering a better understanding of how people learn so as to improve the educational system as a whole.

While students who complete the free courses will not receive a degree of the same caliber as a traditional student, they will be credited as earning a Certificate of Mastery, and will be a little bit smarter afterward.
