Eco-Products Debuts Straws Made with Plant-Based Plastic

Eco-Products has launched a line of compostable straws made from plant-based plastic. The straws, which are made from polyhydroxyalkanoate, have the same performance capabilities as regular plastic straws but with added environmental benefits. The straws' organic origin enables them to serve as a food supply for bacteria that speed up decomposition because they are created with plant-based PHA. These PHA straws can decompose in a home compost pile or a professional composting facility.

The new straws are available separately wrapped or unwrapped, with lengths from 5.5 to 10.25 inches. Visitors and employees may appropriately dispose of the wrapped version in a compost container as it is clearly identified as biodegradable.

"The straws provide the same performance as traditional straws but have some important environmental benefits because they are made from PHA," Nicole Tariku, director of product development at Eco-Products, commented.
