The Echoing Plateau project demonstrates a literal lift to the waterfront of New Rochelle, New York. This project was an attempt to bring life and activity into an underused and underdeveloped area of the historic city as a way to rejuvenate the community and the land.
Toshiki Hirano's explored a facelift approach to his landscape architecture assignment. It looks as though the top layer of earth was cut out and pulled away to produce an elevated plaza with more usable space beneath it. Little hills were extracted beneath the curling corners of the Echoing Plateau terrace to offer lush patches of sloping lawn with lovely protective shade. Plenty of parking is available beneath the big curved deck to make the outdoor space accessible to more people.
