Ramboll Creates a Housing Prototypes That are Eco and Safe

For cities like Lombok, Indonesia, earthquake-resistant housing is extremely important as they are in a zone where natural disasters happen frequently. Ramboll – a civil engineering company, entered in collaboration with locals, charity Grenzeloos Milieu, and the University College London (UCL) to build three earthquake-resistant housing prototypes.

In addition, the project looks to produce durable homes that are also affordable and sustainable. On one hand, Ramboll and its collaborators take into consideration the economic capacity of Indonesia. On the other hand, it seeks to ease the tension of production on the planet. As a result, the earthquake-resistant housing is built out of bamboo which is readily available and resilient materials.

The blueprints are a continuation of a project by Grenzeloos Milieu and UCL, where the two entities are growing vast bamboo forests to "teach locals [how to] harvest the crop for food, craftsmanship, and construction."
