A group of social scientists at the Auckland Medical School and the University of Texas at Austin created a website that uses Twitter to gauge each individual's personality. While there are plenty of tests designed to determine individual personality traits, this website aims to take a different approach.
The personality analysis website is called analyzewords.com and it works by evaluating the kinds of things each user posts on Twitter. More specifically, the website looks at about 400 'junk words' that act as small indicators of the user's attitudes, opinions and interactions. As the researchers explain, "junk words have proven to be powerful markers of people’'s psychological states," making tweets a valuable tool for gauging one's overall health.
While the program is not perfect, it serves as a different way to conceptualize each individual's personality.
