Morocco's Concentrated Solar Plant Will Be the Largest in the World

This Saharan desert solar power plant in Morocco will use mirrored panels to capture the sun's energy and produce half of the country's power needs by 2020.

The country's environment minister, Hakima el-Haite, supported the investment into this desert solar plant as the country moves away from fossil fuels for environmental and economic reasons. The country chose to use a more expensive mirrored plant as it can continue to produce power even after the sun goes down.

'Noor 1' is the first phase of the giant circular solar plant that will be finished next month. It will consist of 800 rows and 500,000 moon-shaped panels that follow the sun. Once it is finished, it will be able to power a million homes and will be the largest concentrated solar plant in the world.
