Derek Brahney Immortalizes Rothko in His iPhone Paintings

As a tribute to Mark Rothko, one of the most famous postwar American painters, 26 year old Derek Brahney, a graduate of Syracuse University, has created an homage to Rothko on his iPhone. Keeping in touch with the ever increasing dependency of technology in design, he has created a series of paintings in honor of Rothko's abstract genius that were rendered through his own iPhone.

"I’ve always been fascinated with how simple blocks of color can be used to such a powerful, emotional effect. His paintings are large and immersive; I thought it might be interesting to mimic the effect, but confined to a small, luminous screen," says Brahney on the inspiration behind creating his new series.
