The DATANATURAL Photo Series by director and photographer Andrew Gant and photographer Melissa Castro explores a world where data is used for body modification.
The pair used Xbox Kinect to scan people and make them 3D models. They changed the data and placed it back into the photograph. They wanted to make their photographs look natural; human and technology had to fit seamlessly. The new data and glitches had to look like it belonged on the human body.
The result is a haunting glimpse of what our technologically-dependent future may look like. The cyborg like creatures in the photos look natural and seamlessly tied to their data body modification. The spiky, patchy data-skin seems less like a mutation and more like an adaption.
