A new study has concluded that more than 10% of pets in the United Kingdom have an online presence on social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, and Critter, a site exclusively devoted to 'petworking.'
Some pets have truly made it big on the Net. For instance, a Massachusetts cat named Sockington has more than 1.5 million Twitter followers and has published almost 7,000 tweets. After receiving millions of likes on Facebook, Boo the dog was officially inducted as a public figure.
Some pet owners use the infamy of their creature companions to raise awareness and money for pet shelters, like the owner of a New York-based cat named Mario who raised more than $50,000 in charitable funds.
With websites like Doggie Dating gaining popularity, there's no telling what pet owners won't do to satisfy their animals' social needs.
