Renowned for his inclination towards alternative platforms for creating sound, Switzerland based sound architect Zimoun of Studio Zimoun has created the 'Kinetic Headphone' installation piece that utilizes cotton balls, two DC motors and cardboard boxes to explore the mechanical rhythm and flow caused by kinetic movement of the cotton balls hitting against two cardboard boxes.
The simple architecture has no actual speaker system installed, but is rather a device that aims to articulate the tension "between the chaotic forces of life through an effortless reverberation of sound repetition." This experimental installation shows that music isn't strictly limited to large brass or wind instruments. As the video simply demonstrates, there is a certain type of harmony that can be felt from the cotton ball-inspired headphones.
