Purpose-Built Flood Parks

Chulalongkorn Centennial Park Offers Bangkok a Space Even When Flooded

Sitting on a former swamp in the center of Bangkok, the Chulalongkorn Park is purpose-built to face the future fears and uncertainties revolving around climate change. Built to hold 1 million gallons of rainwater, this redesigned park takes advantage of former farmland and aims to provide the sprawling metropolis with a park that cannot be flooded. This key feature comes thanks to a retention pond and a slightly concave lawn that can hold more than 100,000 gallons of water.

Chulalongkorn Park is also part of a new revitalization project aimed at restoring this area of central Bangkok. To accomplish this the park will include a museum with a large roof covered with native plants and also providing Bangkok residents with an expansive green space in the middle of the city.
