German photographer Christian Stoll's recent series depicting the inner-working of jet engines does well to communicate the immaculate degree of precision that goes into manufacturing one of these powerful machines.
The series, titled simply, 'Steel,' is beautifully shot and elegantly composed. One feels as though they could push their hand into the photographs and run their fingers along the sharp, metallic blades of the jet engine. The gears seem like they are about to begin turning in a restless vortex of motion; perhaps this is because one naturally tends to think of jet engines as kinetic.
Stoll brings a fresh perspective with this series. He shows something, which is usually screaming hundreds of miles per hour through the air, at rest and motionless.
