Household Waste-Made Stools

Charlotte Allen Collects a Month's Worth of Waste to Create a Stool

Charlotte Allen is a multidisciplinary designer based in the UK and her latest project combats environmental social issues. Allen designed a stool out of recyclable house waste collected over the time span of a month. The piece entitled 'prolong' is comprised of mainly plastic and paper materials. Allen explains that she wanted to prolong people's relationships with their household waste and found a way to do so by creating an upcycled piece. After a month of collecting, Allen had upwards of 50 plastic bottles and a large amount of paper and cardboard.

The process uses pressing techniques, resulting in a kitchen stool sitting at 60cm in height. The seat is constructed from high-density polyethylene plastic, which is usually used for shampoo and milk bottles. The legs are made from compressed cardboard and paper held by polyvinyl alcohol.Photo Credits: designboom, charlotteallen.uk
