Cable Car Cuisine

Dining in the Singapore Sky

Dining in the sky isn’t exactly unusual in Singapore. You can board one of the string of cable cars and travel from Mount Faber to Sentosa Island three times while being served a meal for about $200 per couple. It’s a far cry from the pricey Dinner in the Sky bunch that made North American debut in Toronto last summer (see related trends.) It’s no less a skyward adventure and the scenery is breathtaking.

Diners are set upon their way with an appetizer. The thirty-minute round-trip gives them plenty of time to enjoy it as well as the scenery. When the cable car docks, the appetizer is cleared away and the main meal set. It’s best to attend to eating as thirty minutes is generous for an appetizer, but a little restrictive for the major part of a meal. Upon docking the second time, the dishes are cleared for final course of dessert and coffee or tea. One more thirty-minute ride and the meal is complete. Several award-winning restaurants supply western cuisine and can accommodate special diets or requests. Meals must be ordered at the time of reservation.

The video above is an endearing record of one such date above the city of Singapore.
