The Biometric Steam Box Controller Confirmed in Development

The inventive minds at Valve have confirmed that they're developing what the company believes to be the next big thing in video game controllers: biometric player feedback.

In other words, the controllers will be able to read things like the position of players' gaze, heart rate and finger position. In an interview with tech website The Verge, Valve CEO Gabe Newell stated that this sort of unconscious player input "on the other hand is essentially adding more communication bandwidth between the game and the person playing it, especially in ways the player isn’t necessarily conscious of."

Valve's new Steam Box console concepts are making significant rounds around the technosphere lately, and one would imagine that Valve's big ideas for new control inputs would be included in their plans for the upcoming Xbox/PlayStation competitor.
