In the wake of climate change and the pollution crisis, many consumers are opting for sustainable apparel. To meet consumer demands, LA-based sustainable denim brand, Triarchy, joined forces with Candiani Denim to be one of the first to come to market with Candiani's biodegradable stretch denim which will be available at retail starting March 2020.
"We abandoned stretch denim last year because even if the plastic is derived from recycled sources, it still creates an end of life problem - meaning the material is very difficult to repurpose and reuse. Essentially it’s using old garbage to create new garbage," says Adam Taubenfligel, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Triarchy.
"By utilizing Candiani’s pioneering of plant-based yarns to create this bio-stretch, we can now re-introduce stretch denim into our family of sustainable products, taking creation and end of life into account before we bring anything to market. Triarchy's use of Candiani's biodegradable stretch denim means the jeans are free from both plastics and micro-plastics -- pollutants affecting our waterways and harming wildlife. The denim is created by wrapping organic cotton around natural rubber to give it both stretch and sustainability and the hardware on the denim is made from 100% recycled metal. This new Triarchy collection marks a milestone for preserving resources and reducing wastefulness in the fashion sector.
