These images by photographer Asher Svidensky provide a traditional look at eagle hunting in west Mongolia. Eagle hunting amid Kazakh groups is an established practice and Svidensky took it upon itself to document its most current forms.
Although Svidensky originally wanted to examine eagle hunting from a male perspective as it has long been recognized as an activity for men, the 24-year-old ended up focusing on a 13-year-old girl named Ashol Pan.
Pan not only represents the future of the historic sport, but also a shift in gender roles among Kazakh people. At the same time, the pictures are also moving and visually appealing with light shades of orange, yellow and purple lying just above mountainous horizons.
