This Artist's Studio Fosters Peaceful Creative Work

Chan Architecture worked in collaboration with Phillip Johnson Landscapes to create an artist's studio, situated in the backyard of a residence in Melbourne, Australia.

The objective for the project was to design a space that would nurture creative talent. Becoming inspired, and sustaining that inspiration long enough to create something worthwhile, is a difficult task. This studio is meant to encourage the artistic pursuits of the owner, and offer them a peaceful, secluded space in which to engage them. Underneath the studio is a well-integrated, covert garage and storage area, making the space functional as well as beautiful.

Chan Architecture made sure to design the studio so that it would complement the swimming pool and outdoor plan by Phillip Johnson. The two firms worked together on materials, silhouettes and accessible points of reference.
