Blazing Sculpture Installations

Artist Aron Demetz Sets His Wooden Exhibits on Fire

Italian artist Aron Demetz has set all of his wooden sculptures aflame. These live, burning exhibits come at the tail end of his work however as the human sculptures are initially displayed in a variety of ways, adding a rather personal dimension to his project.

After these pieces are set on fire, Demetz reintroduces them to his portfolio. Instead of being discarded, the charred ashes are used to display an alternative side to his pieces. That they are modeled after human beings is no mistake. Demetz uses the inanimate figures to relay the fragility of both nature and humankind. Both are subject to decay and death over time, and he has here sped up the very process that he refers to.
