Estonian Angular Roof Houses

KUU Arhitektid Utilize Roof Structures for Light Optimization

In order to tap into natural illumination as a main light source, studio KUU Arhitektid have constructed a timber structure on the shore of the Baltic Sea that is comprised of angular roofs and triangular roof lights. The architects drew inspiration from the frameworks of "timber dwellings, called koda," which have been dated back several millennia in Estonia. Of course, although the structure's exterior is based on historic frameworks, KUU Arhitektid ensured that the interior satisfies contemporary needs.

There are three main angular roofed structures that house the five functional spaces, including "a sauna, a living room and kitchen, and a bedroom and toilet." The wooden structures are ideal for summer months as the light gives a bright and uplifting character to the living spaces. However, KUU Arhitektid have ensured that the Estonian angular roof-ed houses could also suffice for colder seasons.
