Intestine Exposing Sliced Statues

Cao Hui Gives His Fragmented Sculptures Anatomical Body Parts

Giving old classics a new twist, artist Cao Hui exposes the anatomical body parts of famous ancient statues.

Known for his previous work with gruesomely slashed sofas, the artist is taking a more analytical approach to the internal workings of the human body, turning classic artwork into scientific models. The statues in this series are composed of several pieces, some sliced horizontally like slabs of beef at the butcher shop, while others are cut into wedges and chunks. As a whole, the sculptures are almost an exact replica of the originals, but once disassembled, graphically bloody internal organs are revealed.

The Cao Hui series uses anatomical body parts to show the gritty and gory side of statues designed after humans.
