Alexander Mcqueen Spring 2012

Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2012 Collection brought Paris alive with femininity and fantasy last night. Designed by the talented Sarah Burton, the collection featured soft cascading ruffles and flirty layers of lace, while still embracing the label’s edgy, dark side.

Using soft muted colors like ivory, salmon, pale violet and gold, Burton drew a beautiful line between femininity and fantasy with the structure of her gowns. The gowns appear to be soft, weightless and doll-like, yet retain all of the artistic structure characteristic of McQueen. The line between skin and fabric often appeared to be blurred by the fine lines and delicate overlapping lacework.

For all of the softness of the collection, there is an equal dose of classic McQueen darkness. Fetishistic lace up footwear, bondage inspired corsets and elaborate face coverings danced with the softer side to create a truly unique ballet of softness and strength.
