Unveiled at the NAMM show in Anaheim, California, the Yamaha U1TA Piano does have an old-fashioned acoustic mode as well as a silent mode that mutes the actual hammers while allowing the player to listen to MIDI-reproduced audio through the onboard computer’s headphone jack. Yet it is its TransAcoustic mode that will astound. Available in April, it is priced at $16,000 with a $34,000 grand piano option being unveiled for November 2014.
