Hi-Tech Vibrating Instruments

The Yamaha U1TA Piano Bridges Gap Between Digital and Analog

It is easy to be deceived by the rather traditional design of the Yamaha U1TA Piano. Although it looks like any other model before it, this particular instrument boasts a unique tech advantage that enables it to amplify its sound without speakers. Essentially bridging the gap between digital and analog, the Yamaha U1TA Piano literally vibrates to project sound outwards.

Unveiled at the NAMM show in Anaheim, California, the Yamaha U1TA Piano does have an old-fashioned acoustic mode as well as a silent mode that mutes the actual hammers while allowing the player to listen to MIDI-reproduced audio through the onboard computer’s headphone jack. Yet it is its TransAcoustic mode that will astound. Available in April, it is priced at $16,000 with a $34,000 grand piano option being unveiled for November 2014.
