This Offshore Platform Allows For Ultra-Efficient Turbine Operations

Gazelle Wind Power, an Irish company that is dedicated to helping hasten the transition to renewable energy through the use of advanced offshore wind platforms and supporting technologies, has announced the advent of a futuristic floating wind platform that is said to be able to reliable stabilize wind turbines whilst reducing associated costs.

The company's floating wind platform is designed to be tethered to the sea floor, with cables emerging from three areas around the sea floor and being run over the arms, with the other end hooked up to a heavy suspended counterweight. Gazelle Wind Power states that this helps to balance out the motions caused by tides and waves, making for more efficient operation of wind turbines.

Smaller and more lightweight than conventional semi-submersible solutions, this wind platform is said to be able to cost less and use up less steel whilst still being able to work in conjunction with turbines up to 20 megawatts.
