Green Urinals

Water-Free Japanese Urinals

I am not sure how on-board I am with this environment friendly Japanese water-free urinals. I am all for going green, but something about not flushing after peeing just doesnt sit well with me.

Introduced by The Nankai Electric Railway Co. the urinals eliminate the need to flush after use by using a low friction material that prohibits condensation build up. The water-free urinals have been deployed at 18 men's toilets in stations along the railway lines.

These urinals can save 22,000 tons of water and about 6 million yen in utility bills. "Water is a limited resource. We want to gradually increase the number of stations that have these urinals," a Nankai spokesman said.
