The Gauntlet is a pair of smart gloves that let its wearer type simply by moving their thumb along their fingers.
The one-handed keyboard glove was designed by a team of researchers at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The Gauntlet's creators hope that it will help people with disabilities type more easily and efficiently, but it's also easy to see how it could be useful for able-bodied people struggling to type in the cold. The smart gloves have letters along the inside of each one of their fingers. Tapping on a letter with one's thumb will type that letter into a smartphone's keyboard. Swiping the thumb through the air deletes previously typed text.
The UAH team is currently seeking a patent for the Gauntlet smart gloves, which it believes have applications in accessibility, gaming and even the military.
