Combining Recycling and Manufacturing

Bicycle, Polymer and Lights- all made from recycled products

Recycling and Manufacturing do not always go hand-in-hand. The BBC's Up Next group has looked at 3 products exploring the relation between Recycling and Manufacturing.

The very first item in Recycling and Manufacturing includes a bicycle, called The Ingenio. Victor Monserrate brings Recycling and Manufacturing together by creating The Ingenio. This is a customized bicycle whereby scrap plastic containers are converted into plastic thread. Monserrate says that he hopes to introduce this in developing countries and bring Recycling and Manufacturing together.

The second product in the Recycling and Manufacturing togetherness campaign is called BioWool. Dan Mclaughlin, its creator, says it brings together Recycling and Manufacturing by combining the wool that is wasted by the carpet makers along with bioresin.

For purposes of bringing together Recycling and Manufacturing, Rob McDougall, an Italian manufacturer and Issey Miyake, a Japanese fashion designer, have formed a joint venture. In this Recycling and Manufacturing venture, an assortment of lights have been created. This Recycling and Manufacturing venture is called the 'IN-EI' and comprises of lights which appear to resemble paper. The lights, meanwhile, have the look of orgami yet are constructed from reusable plastic bottles.
