In a response to the current refugee crisis and the increase of natural disasters around the world, a South Australian start-up has created pop-up emergency shelters that hope to provide shelter for the victims of these conflicts and issues.
The shelters are foldable and are easily transported -- with the actual set-up of each shelter taking only a few minutes. The shelters are also cost-effective and can be easily distributed during natural disasters, and can also reduce the spread of malaria and water-borne diseases that tend to severely impact refugee camps. The pop-up emergency shelters have solar paneling, tables, beds, water purification, heat and full bathrooms. They can house up to six people and are durable enough to last for 20 years.
These structures could be game-changing not just for the fact that they provide shelter, but a potentially life-saving service that would also allow the victims of conflict and natural disasters some dignity in their living conditions.
