Melodea Creates a New Bio-Coating to Recycle Plastic Food Packaging

Melodea, an Israeli green technology company, has introduced 'MelOx NGen,' a water-based, plant-based coating created to line the inside surface of various plastic food packaging products.

The newly engineered barrier coating offers several advantages over conventional options. Firstly, it aligns with the company's commitment to eco-friendliness and sustainability, being made from renewable resources. Moreover, the new coating is proven to preserve food freshness and reduce food waste.

'MelOx NGen' is a proven alternative to petroleum-based ethyl vinyl alcohol copolymers (EVOH), commonly employed in packaging due to their food preservation properties. With the new coating, Melodea hopes to expand the options for plastic food packaging and contribute to a greener planet.

"MelOx NGen presents an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution by applying it to various forms of plastics, including monostructure plastics that possess exceptional performance properties and are recyclable. Our solution will also relieve the current bottleneck in the supply of EVOH," said Cee Azerraf, VP of sales and marketing at Melodea.
