Architectural Food Pyramids

These Food Pyramids are Hand-Built Using Candies and Cookies

Photographer Sam Kaplan has hand-built food pyramids and structures that he has turned into a unique photo series.

Each structure is different, and made entirely from food. The most commonly used food was candy and cookies, as their bright colors and shapes made building each structure a little easier. Also, the uniform shape of these confections made for interesting geometric patterns.

The most impressive of Kaplan's work are his food pyramids. Despite looking fake and technologically altered, Kaplan ensures that they are real. The first image is a pyramid made entirely of a variety of candies. Not only does Kaplan build these, he also photographs these sculptures resulting in professional looking images. Other shapes in the collection include dizzying spirals of candy, complex enough to create an optical illusion.
