Sustainable Supermarket Produce

Food From the Sky's Rooftop Garden Provides Store Veggies

Not only I am completely behind the unique and sustainable concept of Thornton’s Budgens supermarket’s Food from the Sky project, but I also share their belief that their amazing rooftop garden should be adopted by other supermarkets around the world. Essentially, they keep a large enough vegetable garden on the roof of their building to provide produce for their aisles below.

The brainchild of former silversmith and art consultant Azul-Valerie Thome, the Food from the Sky project is currently being implemented in just the one London-based supermarket. It began last year when Haringey Council donated ten tonnes of compost and 300 green recycling boxes.

Since then, the Food from the Sky project recently won the Co-operative’s annual People and Environment Achievement. Awards.
