Fire Drawings are Created With Flammable Paint

The Fire Drawings are just what the name suggests: Works of art that are set on fire. They take on intricate, geometrical shapes that are painted onto wooden surfaces with flammable paint. As beautiful as the Fire Drawings are unlit, the piece de resistance is when they are lit. The flame travels up and down the painted lines to create a spectacular show.

Created by British designer Tim Simpson and Dutch designer Sandra van Gameren, from London-based Studio Glithero, the Fire Drawings are finished with decorative charcoal traces that remind people of the flame that just traveled the painted paths. The artists elaborate, "The remaining charcoal pattern resonates a memory of a moment that has already been. Literally and metaphorically it is the ashes of a process."
