Time-Erasing Cloaks

Scientists at Cornell University Make Strides on 'Temporal Cloaking'

Physicists at Cornell University have now surpassed bending light to make objects seem invisible and their sly scale by successfully erasing history through "temporal cloaking," which until recent work in Cornell labs was practically a myth. The general idea can be identified through an analogy to a magic trick that seems virtually impossible. Imagine a magician who claims he can disappear and reappear in different location. Now imagine he does. Your mind automatically hits a logical wall that tells you this is not possible. Well now it can be -- thanks to our Cornell scientists and temporal cloaking. Simply put, temporal cloaking allows physical events to occur unnoticed by selected parties.

Currently, the Cornell scientists have been able to manufacture this marvel by hiding an event at approximately 50-trillionths of a second. This is the first time anyone has been able to interrupt the continuous flow of light that reaches our eyes when they are open. Perhaps time really isn’t a myth. Or is it?
