This sculpture series takes this typically cold, hard and practical material and turns it into a thing of beauty. The Concrete Lace art installation strips away the functional aspects of the material and focuses solely on its malleable form.
Created by German-born, Netherlands-based artist Doreen Westphal, the Concrete Lace art installation is based on an old lace pattern from Belgium, which was translated into a digital file. Westphal molded the concrete using plexiglas, silicone and wires based on the file. Once the molds are removed, the concrete hangs from the wires like a curtain.
The Concrete Lace installation was presented during this year's Maison & Objet.
