Again Launched 'CleanCell' and 'Tag' for the Circular Economy

Again, a London-based clean technology startup, has introduced its innovative CleanCell technology, designed to revolutionize the traditional recycling process. CleanCell is a micro-cleaning facility compact enough to fit inside a 40-foot shipping container, which collects, cleans, and repackages glass bottles for reuse. This technology aligns with the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions, particularly in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, which is increasingly shifting from single-use to reusable packaging. The CleanCell system de-labels, washes, and dries the bottles to meet food safety standards, followed by a visual inspection to ensure there are no defects. The cleaned bottles are then arranged and packed into pallets using robotics, ready to be shipped back to FMCG brands for refilling.

In addition to CleanCell, Again has developed a companion technology called Tag, a traceability platform that enhances the transparency and efficiency of the reusable container supply chain. Each packaging item is marked with a unique laser-etched QR Code, enabling tracking of the number of reuses, failure and rejection reasons, live inventory visibility, and consumer engagement through a landing page. This system allows Again and its partners to monitor the exact amount of CO2 reduction and water savings achieved through the use of CleanCell technology. The company’s approach not only offers an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional recycling but also competes economically with the sourcing of virgin glass bottles, providing a cost-efficient solution for FMCG brands to transition into a more sustainable packaging ecosystem.
