Bharat Bargava's bike bench is clever for a number of reasons. It not only encourages a healthier lifestyle since it actually acts as a stationary bike, but it also brings awareness to kinetic energy and environmentally friendly ways of using such power.
Bharat Bargava's bike bench does this by linking the pedaling of the built-in bike with the lamp post that rests above it. With each pedal, you actually power the light, therefore seeing the concrete results of your exertion. Since this is a public bench, it also helps keep your surroundings lit up safely.
Although not necessarily a unique concept, Bharat Bargava's bench definitely shows how it can be used in public spaces. It was presented during the MA Industrial Design show.
