The Asobi by Yasutoki Kariya is an illuminating interpretation of the iconic Newton's Cradle. In place of the classic swinging steel spheres, however, this installation is made up of simple light bulbs suspended from the ceiling. Thus, the Japanese art student doesn't just demonstrate the conservation of momentum and energy, he also shows the transference of light. Nevertheless, the lesson that for every action there is a reaction still remains strong.
Created as part of his senior thesis exhibition at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo, Japan, the Asobi by Yasutoki Kariya is as beautiful as it is brilliant. The Experiments in Motion blog even created a stunning gif that captures its mesmerizing quality. Asobi has been deservedly nominated for the 2012 Mitsubishi Junior Designer Award.
