# Haunting Zoo Animal Portraits This Zoo Animals Photo Series Portrays Human Sadness and Isolation By Farida Helmy | Published 2014-07-31 | Updated 2014-08-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zoo-animals-photo-series References: [featureshoot](http://www.featureshoot.com/2014/07/moving-photo-series-captures-the-loneliness-of-zoo-animals-in-the-winter/) & [toniamengual](http://www.toniamengual.com/project/necrofiliai/) This black and white zoo animals photo series shows the audience desolate creatures in the midst of winter looking lonely and in need of a friend -- or an audience -- to keep them company. Captured by Spanish photographer Toni Amengual, 'Necrofilia I' is an exploration of the photographer's harrowing feeling of loneliness and isolation, which he beautifully symbolizes using sorrowful images in his zoo animals photo series. Amengual shot his pictures when he was visiting the Barcelona Zoo in the dead of winter. The way he was able to capture the animals looking anxious and sad speaks of his inner turmoil. The haunting and dully hued images will haunt you as you look into the lingering stares of these animals who are confined, vulnerable and alone. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 59% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Emotional Photography:** There is an opportunity for photographers to capture emotions and tell powerful stories through their work. - **Loneliness in Art:** Artists can explore the theme of loneliness and isolation to evoke strong emotions and provoke thought. - **Animal Welfare Awareness:** This series highlights the need for more attention and care towards the emotional well-being of animals in captivity. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Photography:** Photographers can incorporate emotional storytelling techniques to create impactful and thought-provoking pieces. - **Fine Arts:** Artists can use their creations to raise awareness and spark conversations about loneliness and the human-animal connection. - **Animal Rights and Welfare:** The series emphasizes the importance of providing better living conditions and mental stimulation for zoo animals. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Almost-Extinct Animal Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fauna-series.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Three-Part Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rhinoceros-gallery1.md) - [Illuminating Animal Holiday Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bronx-zoos-holiday-lights.md) - [Photography Project Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1.md) - [Mental Health-Supporting Campaigns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-last-photo.md) - [AI-Enhanced Pet Adoption Photos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/personality-pics.md) - [Color Photography Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/profiles-in-color.md)
