# Ugly Undead Consoles The Zombie Gameboy Serves a Dose of Scary Nostalgia By Susan Keefe | Published 2011-10-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zombie-gameboy References: [holykaw.alltop](http://holykaw.alltop.com/zombie-gameboy) & [ekoala.livejournal](http://ekoala.livejournal.com/167970.html) If this Zombie Gameboy is any indication the '90s are back, then this decade has returned in an undead style. This micro-chip munching version of the [original hand-held gamer console](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anbernic-rg34xx) is the handiwork of the blogger behind KodyKoala.com. According to the mastermind, he came across his once-treasured toy and decided to tear it up. Edging on the side of creativity rather than destruction, the handy blogger decided on a zombie motif just in time for Halloween. Complete with a distressed vicious face, the console is equipped with a set of intimidating spindly arms made of exposed wires and Frankenstein-style feet. The body of the device is scored, scratch and discolored, and in its vice-like hands it holds the innards of a fellow technological device. Endlessly clever, spooky and deliciously [nostalgic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/analogue-3d-funtastic), the Zombie Gameboy is a stroke of meaningless technological genius if there ever was one. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 4% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Retro Gaming:** Opportunity to capitalize on the nostalgia for classic gaming consoles and create unique, customized versions. - **Creative Destruction:** Exploring unconventional ways to repurpose old technology and give it new life as unique art pieces. - **Halloween-themed Tech:** Creating spooky, themed gadgets and devices for seasonal celebrations and events. ### Where This Applies - **Gaming:** Incorporating retro gaming elements and customization options to attract nostalgic gamers. - **Art and Design:** Providing a platform for artists and designers to showcase their creativity by repurposing old technology in innovative ways. - **Seasonal Products:** Developing and marketing Halloween-themed tech products to cater to the growing demand for unique and themed gadgets during the holiday season. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Vibrant Retro Handheld Gaming](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-classic.md) - [Robotic Handheld Gaming Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/game-bot.md) - [Industrial Handheld Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocketman-p1.md) - [Foldable Gaming Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/game-boy-flip-concept.md) - [Retro-Inspired Handheld Game Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sup-game-box-400.md) - [Ultra-Compact Gamer Console Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-gaming-console.md) - [Anthropomorphized Gaming Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playdate-handheld-gaming-device.md) - [Retro Handheld Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modretro.md) - [Shapeshifting Gamer Consoles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nintendo-game-boy-famicon.md)
